In 2025, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced sweeping changes that provide streamlined systems of member identity where the members will be allowed to connect their Aadhaar with their Universal Account Number (UAN) jointly. The restructuring of the codes would help to decrease paperwork, accelerate the process of claim settlements, and conveniently allow more than 27 crore subscribers of EPFO to have access to their provident funds benefits.
What’s New in Aadhaar-UAN Linking?
In case the name, gender and date of birth in both your Aadhaar and UAN records are found to be in exact match, you may now get your Aadhaar linked directly by your employer as well. The KYC area of the EPFO portal is used by the employer to process the case–nuisance EPFO approval is no longer required.
This is a huge leap considering the old system where little mismatch made delays as several levels of verification were involved.
Fixing Errors Made Easier
In case you have entered the wrong Aadhaar or incorrect Aadhaar was linked accidentally, then your employer can now file a Joint Declaration (JD) form (which was online previously) and get the mistake rectified. In case your employer is not available or he has liquidated, then you may file hardcopy of JD form at the EPFO regional office. Your request will be uploaded and verified by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) so that it can be processed.
But as soon as the Aadhaar is checked by the UIDAI, the latter cannot make the changes on such data via the EPFO.
Relief for Minor Beneficiaries
EPFO is now no longer necessitated with guardianship certificate to settle claims of minor children in case of the death of a member. The benefits could be directly deposited to to bank account of the child. The EPFO officials will also assist the families to open bank accounts where they can open accounts of minors to facilitate quick and easy payouts.
